What the headline price leaves out
The biggest difference between two quotes is usually what is not in the first number. Ask every company, including us, about each of these:
- Delivery and pickup. Some trailer prices exclude delivery entirely. Ours includes it within 20 minutes of Calgary city limits; farther venues are quoted by distance.
- Water and power. Some trailers need a water hookup or a generator at extra cost. Ours carries its own fresh water and waste tanks and runs on standard site power.
- How many days. A Saturday wedding often means a Friday drop-off and a Sunday pickup. Ask whether that is one day or three. Ours is $1,800 for the Friday to Sunday weekend.
- Servicing and attendants. Whether the unit is cleaned and restocked during the event, and what an attendant costs.
- Deposits and tax. The booking deposit, any damage hold, and GST. Ours is a 50% deposit to hold the date and a refundable $1,000 hold the week of, plus GST.
When porta potties are the right call
We rent trailers, and we will still tell you: for a short, casual, or very large outdoor event, standard units are often the sensible choice. For a wedding, where guests are in their best clothes for most of a day and every one of them visits, the trailer is usually worth it. There is more on that in our honest side-by-side.
